Callum has always loved music but a recent evening at his preschool revealed just how much he loves a particular music teacher. He has been enrolled in an extracurricular program called "Preschool of Rock" this year and when the school hosted a dinner, the music class was a part of the evening's entertainment. Leading up to the dinner Cal could hardly even focus on eating he was so excited. And, when "Mr. Michael" the music teacher passed by the hallway he nearly hyperventilated with excitement. And when the music started, oh boy...our normally reluctant and shy guy sat front and center and ROCKED! (He is hard to see in this photo but he is in the center wearing stripes.)
The boy who had never done anything more than stand staring into space on a stage was singing, shouting, jumping, PLAYING AIR GUITAR, and popping up and down like crazy. He was transfixed by this amazing music teacher who was equally enthusiastic and fun and made these little kids feel like rockstars.
A few weeks later, it is clear that "Mr. Michael" has captured the imagination and admiration of our little man. We learn new things every day like "Mr. Michael always wears an orange cap because his hair is too crazy...he can't take it off!" He is making up songs all the time and still playing lots of air guitar and humming through his kazoo. It's also clear Mr. Michael is the first person our guy has idolized...the first person cooler and funnier and more interesting that his family...the first person to make us look boring...the first but as we have to reluctantly admit not the last. One of the first steps our guy will make away from us and into the big, bad real world. Phew.

That is really sweet. Or scary. Depending on how you feel about falling in love with rock stars. Personally, I think it's a terrific life choice. ;)
