As the summer starts to close down and brown leaves begin to dot our lawn it feels so important to get to the beach! This beach is inside of a state park that is relatively nearby so it doesn't involve too much car time. This is great because the little guy has alot less tolerance for the car seat these days. Once at the beach, we ran into friends and Cal enjoyed playing with an older kiddo. She was dead-set on digging to the 'water table', pretty ambitious for a five year old but we tried to help along.

Sing-Song
This constitute my most-favorite-thing-in-the-world right now. Cal's found his singing voice! Most songs, like this one, merge from a simple ba-ba-ba to the beginning of itsy-bitsy spider. I've never met a kid that loved music so much! Of course, I can't say I've paid this much close attention to many other kids, either.

Sandy Hook steals our hearts
The sun and the heat combined with a super special visit from Cal's uncle Charlie meant a trip to the beach was in order. The waves were strong and loud and a little scary but he enjoyed goofing around with everyone in the sand.
We couldn't have asked for a bluer sky but the sun wasn't so hot that Cal couldn't walk around on the sand in his bare feet. It was the perfect combination.
He got in lots of requests for Uncle C to read his polar bear book and showed off his seriously impressive snacking skills.

Summer is the season
...for county fairs. So, we trekked on over to our local fair this weekend with one of Cal's daycare buddies. Cal loved these spikey balls much to the dismay of the staff trying to run a game with them. He and his friend were also very excited about the baby animals. Cal was especially proud of himself for having the courage to pet the sheep and baby pig.

So Much for the City that Never Sleeps
On a whim, we took advantage of a sunny-but-not-too-hot day and went into New York to visit the Natural History Museum. Callum had a blast. He loved running around the open spaces, waving and blowing kisses to new friends, and dancing to any music that was playing.
We, of course, loved watching him. Have to say his joy was contagious and left us smiling ear to ear.
The most amazing part of the trip was that, at naptime, we settled into a shady, semi-quiet spot in Central Park and he fell asleep! For an hour and a half. Mama and Papa got to relax, read, and enjoy the people-watching while he dozed.
Poor little guy, he is doing so much walking, fast walking, bending, and learning that he just conks out! It's like he is at the gym all day long. He will sleep anywhere. (Papa also snuck in a little nap for himself.) Not a bad start to our August.

New Sandbox!!
Cal celebrated his first day as a 15 month old with his buddy Paige in his new sandbox! Grandad and Grandma Crowley bought it for him for his first birthday and a few weekends ago they put it together. It took a bit of getting used to...he didn't like the feeling of sand on his feet and kept trying to keep his feet off the sand. But, eventually he got into it. Thanks Grandad!
A Sampling of Words
Here's a sample of some of Cal's new words in the adorable way that he says them. As you can see, he say Uh-Oh with lots of confidence.
