Brrrr!

The temperatures dropped this weekend and so it was all about things we can do inside! Cal and Mama made peanut butter snacks.
And this guy! Well, he worked on walking, standing up, and scampering as fast as he possibly could around the house. He has a total of six teeth now! Even a little ear infection can't slow him down. Though, we do hope it passes quickly. Hope you all kept warm!

Tongue-tied, medically speaking

Not sure it is exactly visible in this shot but our littlest guy is tongue-tied. For real. His tongue attaches to the bottom of his mouth at the very tip, so he can't stick his tongue out and would suffer from speech problems as he got older. So, we are currently seeing a specialist and someday soon will need to have a surgery. Gulp. Amazing what you learn as a parent.

The Crawling, Clapping, Throwing, Speaking Story

We are way behind on getting this story to the press (that being this blog.) and it is a big one. Last Friday, we took Jude to the doctor and she said "Is he crawling?" No. "Is he saying Mama or Dada?" No. "Is he throwing things?" No. "Is he clapping?" No. At which point she furrowed her brow and gave me a worried look. Then she said, "I'm not worried but..." So, of course, we got a little worried but not too much.

Then Saturday, the very next day, after waking up from a nap we set him down on the rug in the kitchen and he started crawling. A little while later he threw something and started clapping. By the end of the day he was saying "mama". I'm not making this up! And, it isn't as if we just didn't notice it before, it's tough stuff to miss.

A week later he is a crawling maniac with the potential to attack and destroy anything his brother is working on. He is clapping at everything, particularly anything NEW he is doing like lifting his arms up in the air for a SO BIG. And, he's very good at yelling MAMA particularly during an otherwise nice, relaxing dinner. Suddenly, he seems like a very big boy.

I almost forgot, we also got a second tooth this week! Phew.

A little bit about us...

J: I am 9 months old already and I have one tooth. I can push myself backwards and am DAYS away from being able to crawl. I'm fascinated by my brother, I laugh when he laughs and even cry when he cries (excepting those times that I find it funny, which drives him nuts.) I am also on the cusp of cruising around on furniture and can roll from my back to my stomach. I love social situations and love watching people, especially those people that like to make silly faces at me. I can say "ga" "blah" "goo" and a few other syllables. I like to say them loud!! I used to like sleeping but that phase has passed, I'd rather stay up and prefer a bitty nap and then a wake-up in the middle of the night, much to my parent's chagrin. I can pick up cheerios and pretty effectively get them into my mouth. This discovery has meant mom and dad can actually eat dinner, too. But, give me a bottle and I will slam it against the table and spray water everywhere!

C: I love music and firefighter boots. I'm still a bit shy but after about 20 minutes with someone new I will talk your ear off for the next several hours. I give my legs, feet and arms names. Right now, my left leg is named Ben and my right leg is named Len. I love puzzles and cars but I'm not that crazy about art projects (sorry mom!). I've got a special little dance that I do when I'm especially happy. I'm pretty crazy about my little brother, I like to check in with him and give him little hugs. I've become a big boy since he came along and I kind of like that job. I like to sing to him when he is upset and say things like "It's ok, Judebug." I call lotion, palotion and my parents find it too cute to correct. I love palotion and 'need' to use it alot. I like a thick spread on my hands that I just keep rubbing in over and over. I've become a pretty picky eater but there is the rare occasion when I can eat my weight in broccoli. I love reading books, and my mom gets scared during some of our scary book like Where the Wild Things are, so I have to cuddle with her to help her feel better. I love to stay at home, a true homebody, and have to be coaxed to go out and do something. Once my dad said, "Let's go on an adventure to the museum!" and I said, "Let's go on an adventure on the porch!!"

J and C: We are a pretty happy pair of boys. We think our parents are pretty lucky! If they weren't so tired they might have an easier time recognizing this fact.

American Museum of Natural History

As a gift we were given tickets to the American Museum of Natural History and we were able to use them this Saturday. It was our second trip but much more fun with Cal at an age to appreciate it a bit more.
We played gorillas and 'tamed' the scary dinosaurs. "Are those terrible claws, Papa?"
Jude liked the butterfly conservatory and pretty much everything else.

We stopped for a snack and Callum enjoyed feeding Jude his new cheerio puffs.

I'm so ready to motor it's funny

He is really good natured about it most of the time but this poor kid is so close to crawling! He can actually get around relatively well with this crazy up and down method, but mostly he just moves backwards...away from what he is aiming for!
